Burke Centre is now an Amtrak stop!
This is a really big deal for BC residents and one that is bound to increase property values for homeowners! Now you can hop the train for a weekend in NYC to see some shows or head to Boston to see a baseball game. College students can also travel back and forth to schools in southern Virginia right from our back yard!
Amtrak's Northeast Regional service from Lynchburg now stops at Burke Centre. Previously the station only provided connecting service for Virginia Railway Express passengers. With this new designation, passengers may now book travel to and from Burke Centre on Amtrak.com.
The Northeast Regional service between Lynchburg and the Northeast Corridor now has Virginia stops in Charlottesville, Culpeper, Manassas, Burke Centre and Alexandria. The stop at L'Enfant Plaza will continue to provide connecting service for Virginia Railway Express passengers. With the new rail service, which began October, 1, 2009, a passenger can now travel directly from Lynchburg to destinations as far north as Boston and never have to change trains.
Burke Centre's new station code is BCV in the Amtrak site. Tickets may be purchased at Amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
Burke Centre residents also enjoy easy access to public transportation with services available through the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) - pictured above, Amtrak arriving at the Burke Centre Station on Roberts Parkway - and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Metrobus. GUARANTEED RIDE HOME -- The Guaranteed Ride Home Program (GRH) is for commuters who regularly take the bus, rail, vanpool, carpool, bike or walk to work. GRH is designed to serve commuters who are worried about how they'll get home when an emergency arises. GRH provides you with a ride home in the event of an unexpected personal or family emergency, personal or family illness, or when required to work unscheduled overtime. Sorry, GRH cannot be used for weather emergencies, or acts of God. Eligible Commuters may use the GRH program a maximum of four times per year. The GRH program is designed specifically for unexpected emergencies. It may not be used for personal errands, scheduled appointments, business-related travel or working late without a supervisor's request.
